The issue with marble, particularly in the case of marble flooring tiles, is that even though they are beautiful if you do not try to learn about proper care and maintenance requirements, their appeal and shine may be stale.
In the field of healthcare, it is considered to be a non-essential component. Since there is a low chance of contact with skin with the patient or staff, infection dangers are often overlooked. This has led to several discussions about the methods of cleaning floors.
Marble is much denser and more durable than its cousins, limestone and travertine. Because of its toughness and stunning surface detail, marble tiles are utilized in various luxurious hotels, hospitals, and other luxurious locations.
Marble is a natural stone with a pleasant and comforting sensation. Pink, white, beige, or blue marble are popular for their ability to relax patients. As marble is expensive and porous, it is suitable for use in low-traffic areas such as bathrooms and hospital balconies.
Cleaning the floor and maintaining procedures
The hospital is generally home to two kinds of flooring: marble and vinyl. The areas with vinyl flooring are the wards, OPDs, doctors’ rooms, inpatient rooms, and so on. The public areas and all their lift landings have marble floors that are not used in other areas since they’re only suitable for some places due to the possibility of slip-and-fall accidents that cause injuries to visitors, patients, and employees.
Regular mopping and dusting are completed in the early morning hours, and after that, in the event of spillage or spills, flooring maintenance tasks are carried out in the evening. The main thing to remember is that maintenance involves the crystallization of their marble flooring. In contrast, vinyl flooring is maintained using neutral cleaning materials, and no wax or sealer is used for various reasons.
They can only sell their floors at the Operation Theatre (OT) Complex. This is part of the infected control protocols. In addition, it’s natural maintenance and cleaning of floors.
For regular floor cleaning, we employ a multi-purpose cleaner. We prefer a matte finish for our floors. Avoid the high-gloss finish since it can be dangerous, and it is advisable to stay clear of slip and fall accidents.
In the case of our flooring made of vinyl, we can’t use harsh chemicals since the flooring is treated before installation, and we only use neutral cleaners that can disinfect as we must be careful to clean the floors, particularly in our OT complex.
The hospital has low-noise equipment that doesn’t cause a disturbance, and she says cleaning their marble floors isn’t an issue since they are located in public areas like the lift landings, lobbies, and more.
Usually, thorough cleaning takes place during the night. “Obviously, it is impossible to do massive daytime cleaning due to the constant movement and activity. We do this only during the “graveyard shift,” from 11 pm to 7 am. This is the time that has very low activity.”
In the case of marble areas, we initially employ Steel wool pads to help crystallize the marble. As part of our daily maintenance, we utilize these white pad pads to smooth the marble surface to eliminate scratches and enhance the look of the flooring.
The cleaning staff dust mops and then wet mop the floor and then, using the help of a buffing pad attached to the machine that buffs and then buffs flooring from one corner to the next,
The most critical areas, such as Operation Theatre Complex floors, are completely disinfected after the cleaning process is in place daily during the opening and closing of each shift and occasionally, at least twice per day, depending on the utilization of this Complex or when there’s an ad-hoc demand or spillage, or other spillage.
The bathroom floors are made of homogenous tiles, so regular cleaning and scrubs are not required. As part of their cleaning routine, they use powerful disinfectants, especially when cleaning the washrooms in public areas, to ensure no contamination.
Tips for Cleaning Marble Floors and Surfaces
Always dust and smudge your granite flooring or surface, particularly if dirt and grit are becoming apparent. The marble floor should be cleaned with hot water or an industrial cleaning agent for granite at least once per week to remove the dirt, which can cause staining.
Always lay a rug in the entryway. This helps to eliminate dust from the feet that go outside. Foot traffic is the principal transporter of dirt and abrasive particles that damage the surface of marble flooring.
Steps in Cleaning and Disinfecting Marble Floors
- Utilize hot water if you’re mopping or making solutions to wash the floor using detergent. Hot water can cut through the grime and reduce the possibility that you’ll need stronger cleaning products that could damage the marble.
- Make sure to use distilled water whenever possible. Distilled water goes through a process of removal of mineral impurities and toxins. There is a lower chance of staining or discoloring the marble with distilled water.
- Mild detergent is the best choice. Putting two or 3 drops of dish soap into an empty bucket of hot distillate water is possible. Always be sure to read and follow the directions provided on the packaging. Mix the detergent in the correct amount of water and mix it well. Make sure you add pH-neutral soap to the water you are using.
Chemical solutions that are strong, like hydrogen peroxide, bleach, ammonia, and vinegar, can cause damage to flooring. Avoid using them on marble. You can also use a commercially prepared marble cleaner if you prefer. There are some products that offer stone-tech resolution or a basic green option.
- Make use of a soft mop for your floor. Make a mop using a mophead that is soft. If you prefer, place it in the solution of soap and water.
- Use the mophead to eliminate the excess water. Then, systematically clean your floors. Do the S-pattern.
- Rinse and dry the mophead once you have covered anywhere from ten to twenty square inches or 2 square meters. It will vary based on the degree of dirtiness on the flooring.
