With a lot of positive feedback coming from the community throughout its Beta and Server Slam phases, expectations are running high, with many people hoping that the Season Pass (Battle Pass) implemented won’t be as intrusive as the franchise’s previous title, Diablo Immortal.
With what’s been shown and revealed, Diablo 4’s Season Pass will primarily focus on character cosmetics and other small aspects of gameplay for single-player.
Although that might already sound relieving, especially since the game is going to be priced as a full triple-A (AAA) game, the publisher had recently shared that the game will utilise AI technology to promote targeted premium skins to players according to their gameplay data and preferred gear worn in-game.
Diablo 4’s release is now imminent, so make sure to buy Diablo 4 Gold and Diablo 4 Items found at U7Buy right now!
It’s taken a while, but after a couple of years, many Diablo fans can now look forward to the expected launch of the franchise’s latest game, Diablo 4.
Now, if the game was free-to-play, this wouldn’t sound alarming at all.
After all, the developers and publishers HAVE to make money from somewhere, in the business.
However, the game is already priced steeply from launch, with three (3) different versions to be sold; Standard, Deluxe, Ultimate.
Not only will the game’s makers receive abundant revenue from actual game sales, but the introduction of its premium currency, Platinum, to be used for the in-game store sounds suspicious, to say the least.
Granted, it’s still early days because the game is still around two (2) weeks away, so all the ‘sound’ coming from disgruntled fans might not be warranted at all if the technology won’t be as aggressive in its skin marketing as we initially thought.
That being said, in today’s weird video game landscape, almost every game tries to do this in one way or another, hoping to entice players to splurge more cash even after buying a full $70 game (the new price point for AAA titles).
In general, we can already see multiple sources of income generation for the publishers/ developers, pertaining to Diablo 4:
- Game sales
- In-game store
- Season Pass
- Story expansions
Taking into account an AI-focused system that reads through our gameplay statistics to identify our favourite character class, gear, and fashion style, and we can slowly see where this is going.
Furthermore, exclusively-purchasable skins will also be rotated after a certain period, meaning that different premium cosmetics will be around for a short time before being replaced by others under a large catalogue, waiting to be added into the shop at a later date again.
This creates a false ‘urgency’ for players to buy those skins, made even more appealing when the system prompts items that familiarises with the person’s tastes, effectively sealing the deal.
When it comes to business ethics, there’s a fine line between being consumer friendly and greedy.
The publisher has a nasty reputation in terms of monetisation practices, despite its developers managing to create some astonishing games in recent memory.
Let’s just hope the worries surrounding the adoption of AI to recommend exclusive, timed cosmetics to be unfounded, once the game reaches shores on 6th June next month.
With that being said, it’s always good to be prepared, so make sure to stockpile your own Diablo 4 Gold and Diablo 4 Items from U7Buy right now!
